Getting me to go out to the movies is serious struggle these days. If you ask me, 15 dollar tickets, 5 dollar snacks, and painfully uncomfortable chairs don’t necessarily scream ‘great time’. It’s not just me either; over the last decade alone, regular theater attendance has decreased dramatically over the last decade, leaving the film industry in rough shape. With an extensive Netflix movie library at our finger tips, comfortable couches, and a pants optional policy, it’s no wonder movie night at home has become an enticing alternative.
The Chinese company, Xiomi, recently added another reason to this already extensive list. The company’s new Mi Laser Projector looks to bring the same high definition movie projections you get at the cinema to your own home theater. While this technology has been around for sometime, it’s been incredibly expensive, deterring most consumers from such an investment. Xiomi’s new projector is priced at a (more) reasonable $1,470 and boasts a 150 in. display and custom laser technology used by actual movie theaters.
The Mi Laser Projector uses ALPD 3.0 laser light source developed by Appotronics, and also features its own custom digital light processing solution created by Texas Instruments. Looking to make the Mi Laser Projector a completely integrated home theater set-up, Xiomi has included a built-in speaker systems and integrated interface.
Pre-orders go on sale on July 4th on Xiomi’s MIJIA app.
