Spice Up Your Commute With This New Gogoro Scooter

By Nate Lewis · On May 25, 2017

While convertibles and VW Wagons are quick to bring to mind the Pacific Coast Highway and cross country road-trips, scooters offer their own brand of romanticism. Sleek and stylish, these guys have us all dreaming of zipping around glowing Italian alleyways and tropical destinations. While booking a trip is completely on you, we can direct you to a pretty sweet new smart-scooter.

Taiwanese company, Gogoro has announced the follow-up to its much-talked-about scooter from 2015. The Gogoro 2 and 2 Plus provide a slight rework to the original design providing a second generation motor and powertrain. While the motor provides the same amount of power as the original (6.4 W) but boasts smoother torque and improved control.  Gogoro 2 provides two different modes for riders, ‘sport’ and ‘smart’, providing a choice between increased top speed and acceleration or increased gas efficiency and range.

The new Gogoro smart-scooter is also getting a new physical overhaul with larger wheels (14 inch on the front, and 13 inch on the back), a longer seat for passengers, longer 51-inch wheelbase, and a synchronized braking system. The scooter includes increased under-seat storage and a brighter LED display. As a matter of fact, almost everything on the damn thing’s received a bit of a fix-up. The new model features an update to  scooter’s mobile app, brings the addition of biometric security and TouchID, and brings a full-color display to the scooter’s LED screen.

The Gogoro 2 will go on sale in Taiwan in July (preorders are opening today) where pricing can be as low as $1,295 with all local subsidies applied. Gogoro’s website, however, lists the Gogoro 2 starting price at USD$2,455 and the Gogoro 2 Plus at USD$2,654. It will come to other markets by the end of 2017. The Gogoro 2 will be available in six different colors; red, orange, green, blue, black, and white.
