Somnox Robotic Pillow Helps You Fall Asleep

By Ashley Troutman @MissAshleyTv · On November 17, 2017

Did you know that almost a third of Americans are sleep deprived? The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 30 percent of American adults are sleeping six or fewer hours per day. If you fall into that group, the Somnox sleep robot could be for you.

This robotic pillow is designed to be a sleep companion to help you get some Zs. The pillow is soft and shaped like a kidney for easy hugging. It improves sleep by breathing regulation, sounds and affection, according to the company’s Kickstarter page. The Somnox bot reportedly helps you get to sleep faster and stay asleep longer.

The bot breathes with you, which helps your breathing rhythm to become more relaxed naturally. It also features soothing audio to help reduce stress. Choose between heartbeats, lullabies or guided meditations. You can even upload your own audio if you’d like.

“Rather than reaching for addictive medication we found breathing, audio and affection to be effective and proven methods to naturally induce sleep. Being personally exposed to the effects of sleep deprivation we made it our mission to bring the world better sleep with the ultimate sleep companion: the Somnox sleep robot,” according to the company.

Four robotics engineers are behind the bot pillow, which was reportedly born after the engineers looked into solving the massive sleep deprivation issue affecting Americans and found that medication was one of the only solutions on the market. Over 100 iterations and multiple prototypes were created before the Somnox sleep bot was produced.

The company’s research shows that the product is most effective for those who spend their nights worrying, are unable to fall asleep easily, experience stress or restlessness, or suffer from anxiety. During the company’s latest test cycle, 90 percent of test sleepers fell asleep faster when using the Somnox bot pillow and 70 percent said they got a better night’s rest. The bot also features rising music and a wake-up breathing program to help you wake up naturally. About 60 percent of people who tested the bot said they woke up feeling more energized. Additional clinical trials are planned for 2018.

The product is expected to ship in July of next year. The sleeve is washable and it comes with a companion app and charger. In the future, the company reportedly plans to incorporate Artificial Intelligence that aims to help you in a personalized way. If you’d like to order one, you can place a pre-order on Kickstarter for 449 euros ($530).
