In Chengdu China, a unique co-innovation project with SAP and Aimickey Shoe Company is changing the way we shop for shoes in the 21st Century.
Using an app that measures feet with 3D scanners, shoppers can select the style and color of their shoes via a web interface. Once those elements are selected, Virtual Reality (VR) glasses allow you to preview the self-designed shoes on your feet, which are produced within a week!
This co-innovation project combines cutting edge technologies: using SAP Connected Products, based on the SAP Cloud Platform and SAP Leonardo Machine Learning.
With SAP Connected Products based on the SAP Cloud Platform, shoe manufacturers can evaluate market requirements and initiate design processes at any time. Designers can also view top fashion elements from various data sources (through SAP Connected Products) and learn about upcoming trends in order to design best-selling shoes and meet market requirements.
This project accelerates the overall design process and allows for more individual designs without raising costs. Plus, it helps better manage demand, forecast sales and reduces inventory.
Being the fourth largest city in China and having over 14 million inhabitants, Chengdu is considered a thriving hub of technology and innovation. In fact, the city government strongly supports the digitalization of the manufacturing industry and works closely with technology partners, like SAP.
Chengdu government employees hope to promote the economy to the next level, previously having focused on low-end manufacturing in the past.
“With cooperation with SAP, we could provide a competitive edge to local industries for individual design and production,” said Zhijun Ye, Vice Mayor of Chengdu City.
