Pawscout Aims to ‘Reinvent’ the Pet Tag

By Ashley Troutman @MissAshleyTv · On August 21, 2017

There are over 150 million pets across the globe and a new product that’s set to hit shelves later this year is looking to revolutionize the pet tag.

Pawscout is a smart pet tag that allows pet owners to “build safe communities for their pet, all housed within the familiar form factor of a pet tag,” according to a recent release. A traditional pet tag typically offers the fur baby’s address and phone number. However, Pawscout allows pet parents to keep a close eye on their furry friends.

“The first pet name-tags originated over 200 years ago, and while some advancements have emerged in the form of microchips and GPS devices, nothing has elevated the tag beyond a simple tracking or identification device,” Andrea Chavez, Pawscout Founder, said in a release. “We endeavored to reinvent the pet tag. To make it fit into people’s lives by making it smartphone-compatible and connected, beautiful but affordable, and most importantly, creating an easy and fun way for people to build a safe community for their furry friends.”

A Pawscout tag is able to track the movements of your furball and, when used with the Pawscout app, can help find a lost pet. The tag tracks walk distances and the app supplies a live map so users can find their pet in real time. However, the animal does have to be within 300 feet. The company offers a virtual leash as an add-on that will alert a user if the pet steps out of range.

The app also enables owners to share alerts and get virtual updates from an online community of pet lovers. So if your pet does end up missing, the community pet finder feature could help get them home. The app also works as a medical record keeper that allows you to create a full digital profile for your pet that incorporates photos, behavioral or medical issues and more.

The companion app also offers a map to help find local veterinarians, groomers or shelters. It will also identify restaurants, parks and stores that are pet-friendly.

And if you’d still like to have your pet’s name on the tag, Pawscout offers laser-etched or scratch resistant engraving for their tags. You can even pick a style that matches your pet’s personality. These tags are all Bluetooth-enabled, waterproof and weigh about 5g. The battery is good for up to six months.

“From the location-based features that allow people to track their own or their friend’s pet’s movements, to finding a local, pet-recommended coffee shop, Pawscout is the modern name tag for the modern pet,” according to the release.

Want one for your furry friend? It will only set you back $19.99, just click here. You can also pick one up at any major retailer in Canada. The company says these tags will be rolled out in the US later this year.

There are no monthly fees and the app can be downloaded in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Hope Fido likes it!
