Keep Your Coffee Hot for Hours with this Temperature-Controlled Travel Mug

By Doug Atkinson @techfresca · On November 21, 2016

A cup of hot coffee begins life at the undrinkable temperature of 160℉ (71℃) – a state of scalding that the experienced java drinker must patiently wait out. At around 135℉ (57℃) hot coffee has cooled to it’s most enjoyable temperature – call it the Goldilocks zone – not too hot, not too cold. Sipping, slurping and savoring ensue.

But this is a brief happy place as time is running out. Soon your $5 Triple, Venti, Soy, No Foam Latte will be lukewarm and all drinking decorum must give way to unbecoming gulping as you unconsciously race through this most important morning ritual.

Enter Ember Technologies, who just released a temperature-control travel mug that “will rapidly cool your hot coffee or tea down to a chosen temperature and will hold it at that exact temperature for hours on end.” Thus allowing you to extend the enjoyment of drinking your coffee through more of the morning.

According the company, the Ember Mug has been seven years in the making and “combines a phase change cooling system with an active heating system”, creating a precise temperature controlled mug.

The mug can be controlled either on its own or through the Ember mobile app.

The Ember mug hold 12 fluid ounces and will keep hot beverages at your preferred temperature for up to two hours on the go or all day long when used with included charging coaster. The mug can be controlled either on its own or through the Ember mobile app, which allows you to create temperature presets for all your favorite drinks and even adjust the temperature of your coffee or tea remotely.

The Ember mug retails for $149.95 is available on EmberTech.com, and at Starbucks.com/Shop, as well as at select Starbucks stores in the U.S.
