RED has plans to unveil a smartphone with a holographic display and other features that caused the company to place a $1,200 price tag on it.
The high-end camera maker is aiming to release the phone, dubbed Hydrogen One, in early 2018 but they’re already taking preorders. The phone will boast a 5.7-inch, high-definition screen that will reportedly have the capability to switch between 2D images, holographic multi-view content, and more, the company reported.
“This incredible retina-riveting display advancement features nanotechnology that seamlessly switches between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content, and interactive games… both landscape and portrait modes supported,” according to RED.
And the features don’t stop there. RED says audio will be a big part of the experience and the phone will utilize an H30 algorithm to convert stereo into dimensional audio. Plus the phone will allow modular attachments like the Moto Z. However, the Hydrogen One will place focus on image capture.

There will be two versions of this phone on the market, according to RED. One will come in aluminum and will set you back $1,195. The other is made of titanium and will cost you hundreds more; that version is priced at about $1,595.
Because these phones aren’t available yet and the complete specs haven’t been released, the design could change along with the price. YouTube vlogger Marques Brownlee took to Twitter and said that the phone will offer a textured grip-friendly design, USB Type-C, microSD ports and a headphone jack.
