By now, you’ve probably been introduced to Alexa, Amazon‘s answer to Apple’s Siri. While not necessarily revolutionary technology, Alexa brought accessible smart technology into the modern living room last year with its Echo offering. The device was capable of playing your favorite music and providing news and weather updates with a simple phrase. Now, at this year’s CES 2017 convention in Las Vegas, the tech giant has announced the release of its new Alexa powered 4K Ultra Smart TV. In addition to this news, it was announced that Amazon will be working with Dish Networks to deliver Alexa voice control through the remote control on its Hopper DVR.
These new TVs will be available as 43, 50, 55, and 65 inch displays boasting a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. Not too bad! These Fire TVs will be available to the public later this year through Amazon or through an authorized retailer. Amazon has said that the new Fire TVs will provide a wide range of streaming options with over the air content including over 7,000 channels, applications, and Alexa skills and live TV broadcasts when used with a separate HD antenna. These new TVs will offer an on-screen programming guide to make it easy for you to find your next binge-watching obsession. With the voice activated controls on the remote, viewers are able to access any application, search content, play music, and control smart-home devices such as Hue, Wink, Samsung Smart-Things, and Belkin WeMo. The Amazon Fire TV will hold 3 GB of memory and 16GB of built in storage also offering Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet capabilities.
On the launch of Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, Marc Whitten, Vice President, Amazon Fire TV said, “Teaming up with brands including Seiki, Westinghouse, and Element on a new range of smart TVs allows Amazon to deliver an experience that’s familiar and easy to use. Fire TV Edition offers access to a great selection of streaming and over-the-air TV and movies, Alexa for easy voice search and content control, and the many other features and experiences customers have come to expect from the best-selling line of Amazon Fire TV products.”
