9 Announcements from Apple’s WWDC

By Ashley Troutman @MissAshleyTv · On June 6, 2017

Apple’s annual WWDC event is being held this week at the San Jose Convention Center. On Monday, the tech giant’s CEO Tim Cook and other Apple executives unveiled what they’ve been working on all year.

In case you missed it, here are details on some of the biggest announcements made at the event:

Apple HomePod

HomePod is Apple’s new smart speaker. The device is 7” and runs on an Apple A8 chip, according to Wired. HomePod is able to customize sound and features six microphones and a direct line to Siri. This device is scheduled to be available in December and will cost about $350.

iPad Pro 10.5-inch

Many were excited about the possibility of an iPad announcement, and they were in luck. The new iPad Pro doesn’t have bezels and can fit a full-size on-screen keyboard. According to Apple, this is the fastest model yet and boasts a six-core A10X Fusion along with HDR video. It comes in LTE models and can hold 64 gigs of memory, to start. You can pick one up for about $649.

Strongest ever Mac

The new iMac Pro packs a major punch but still has the same slim design as other Macs. The new computer features processors up to 22 teraflops and has memory up to 128 gigs. Plus, it can hold up to 4 terabytes of storage. The entire line of MacBooks and iMacs was also upgraded. But the latest iMac Pro will set you back about $5,000!

High Sierra macOS

High Sierra is the name of the latest macOS. It allows Safari to run about 80 percent faster and features built-in autoplay blocking and intelligent tracking prevention, according to Apple. The new operating systems also boasts improved machine learning capabilities in photos and a new Apple File System. The OS is still in developer beta but it will be available to the public this fall.

iOS 11

New features on Maps and Photos are just some of the upgrades made to iOS11. It also boasts a new control center and App Store along with Apple Pay, which allows you to send payments via text message.

Amazon and Apple TV

Amazon has now been added to the list of partners that Apple TV works with. The list currently includes about 50 partners that allow you to stream programming. Amazon’s Prime Video library will integrate into Apple TV later this year.

Apple watch and AI

The Apple watch will soon have a new watch face that is powered by Siri and will give you reminders, fitness alerts, and the ability to sync playlists to your smart watch. These updates aren’t expected until the fall.

AR on your phone

Apple is getting into Augmented Reality (AR). By utilizing computer vision, your iPhone will be able to find surfaces and add AR objects to them before moving and scaling them.

Siri

Siri has been upgraded with more powerful intelligence and a voice that sounds more human-like. Users can also now ask the virtual assistant to help with translations and it can understand five new languages.
