The Brio smart coaster was created to enforce drinking safety but also to “enhance a user’s social drinking experience,” according to a recent release.
New Potato Technologies, Inc. is behind the smart coaster that “pairs an interactive app and drink safety technology.” The device is meant to be a layer of defense for users so they are able to see when and if their drink has been tampered with.
The coaster is average size and should be able to fit in your bag or pocket. It can be taken to restaurants, bars, clubs or any other place that’s part of the nightlife scene to “spark new connections and provide a source of entertainment; all while helping the user keep track of his or her beverage.”
The Brio features 24 bright white LED lights that illuminate in unique patterns. The coaster comes with a companion app that allows a user to play spin the bottle and roulette among other games. You can even start a drum circle or take advantage of jukebox mode.
It also allows you to rate the venues you’ve been to in real time so other Brio users know what the scene is like. The app enables you to rate a venue’s bathroom, cover charge, capacity and more. You can also score the speed of the servers and bartenders along with the quality of the drinks.
According to the release, the Brio coaster boasts the following features:
Brio Actions: Brio can perform a multitude of actions with a simple tap, including “Find my Brio,” which allows users to locate their drink. Other games and customized light functions are also available.
Guard Mode: Place Brio on a drink and activate Guard Mode through the mobile app. If someone tampers with the drink, Brio will display a light sequence alarm and send a notification to their mobile device.
Brio Mingle: Users create real-time reports that other users can use to guide their evening plans and find places or events that fit their vibe.
Brio’s Creative Director Kellie McLiverty said, “If the Brio can help even one person with drink spiking, then everything we’ve done has been worthwhile.”
She also mentioned that the Brio is the only product out there right now that helps to prevent date rape, as most others typically help victims after the fact.
The Brio comes with a battery and one replacement, but don’t get frustrated like I did when inserting it! Just attach the battery magnetically to the cover and then attach it. You’ll know how helpful this tip is when you get one! It also comes with several different themed coaster inserts so you can switch up the look of your Brio with your mood, outfit or just because.
The Brio Smart Life app is available now in the App Store for iOS devices and will soon be available for Android. You can order the Brio coaster itself for just $39.99 and our readers get a 15 percent discount. Just click here and use the coupon code: techfresca.
