One year on and the Amazon Echo and Boom have reached a level of commodity where I don’t actually raise my eyebrows when I see one at my friend’s apartment. While the Echo and Boom have ushered in the normalization of the modern ‘smart-home’, we all new Amazon wouldn’t be the ones to rest on their laurels. This Wednesday, we saw the tech giant unveil its newest line of Alexa products including a new Amazon Echo, an Echo Plus, the Echo Connect, the Echo Spot, and Echo buttons. Additionally Amazon has announced a new Fire TV for 2018. If that’s a bit to take in, we’ve rounded up these new devices with a quick rundown. Take a look!
Amazon Echo Second Generation
The second gen speaker is equipped with a dedicated bass tweeter with a spiffy new design. The new Echo is about half the size of the original and comes in a wide range of new colors including charcoal, sandstone, heather gray, oak veneer, walnut veneer, and silver. At $99, the new offering is significantly cheaper than its older brother and offers a head-turning deal with a 50% off discount for packages of three.
Amazon Echo Plus
If you thought the first generation was something to drop jaws, take a look at the Plus. While the second generation is a bit shorter, the Plus is a bit taller. Amazon is marketing this guy as an easy to use smart home headquarters that’ll be more equipped to compete with the likes of Google Home and the Apple AirPod. Immediately upon unboxing the device immediately begins connecting to IoT compatible tech around your home.
Amazon Echo Connect
If you’re looking for a cheaper option to the other Echo devices, look no further than the $35 Echo Connect. This device may not have all the bells and whistles that these others have but it does provide a quick and easy way for you to connect your cell phone to one main device.
Echo Spot
The Echo Spot is an itty-bit sci-fi homage in the shape of a small orb with a 2.5 digital display. The Spot allows you to watch videos and take video calls. The device can be pre-ordered now for $130 with shipping expected to begin in December.
